In the event of a loss, you should do whatever is necessary to prevent further loss or property damage - providing it is safe to do so. This could include: evacuating the property, calling the police or fire brigade, or calling other emergency services. You may also need to investigate the causes of the damage. Making sure a situation is safe and the proper authorities have been notified is important. The insurance company is going to want to see a police report especially if there was another vehicle or someone else's property involved in the accident.
As far as when you should lodge. Calling the next day is fine but the sooner the better. Remember you can always call your insurance advisor (Status Insurance Brokers) to make sure the claims process is handled properly. It is important to always consult a professional insurance broker about your specific insurance needs. Our team of insurance professionals at Status Insurance Brokers would be happy to answer any questions you have regarding your insurance policy.
Simply notify your insurance broker that you have suffered loss or damage that you believe is covered by the policy, and request support. Your insurance broker will get the claim started on your behalf. If you need to make a claim, you can select the appropriate notification form from the list above. Claims can be lodged 24 hours / 7 days a week online through our website.
Every claim is different but our aim at all times is to process your claim as quickly as possible. Although some claims can be processed in a relatively short time, other more complex claims may take some time for the insurer to process.
Your claims consultant will keep you up to date on the progress of your claim. Remember, the more information you give to us when you make a claim, the quicker we will be able to process it with the insurer.
The more information you can give our claims consultant, the quicker we will be able to assess your claim with the insurer.
In general, you will need to provide the following details:
Our experienced claims handlers know what you’ll need to lodge a claim in accordance with the policy. They can help you collect the information you need to lodge a successful claim with the insurer.

We can give you advice throughout the claims process, and advocate on your behalf with insurance companies, for no extra charge. This will include reassessing your insurance cover to see if there are areas of your business that could be more appropriately covered in the event of a further setback.
By choosing to use your insurer's managed repairer you will save time and avoid the hassle of obtaining replacement or repair quotes yourself and submitting these for the insurer's consideration. Generally the insurer's supplier network is extensive and can provide you with prompt attention at a time convenient to you. Please contact our office for more information regarding your policy & relevant insurer.
For any claims queries on assessment and repairs, you can call 1300 707 032 Mon-Fri 9am-5pm or email your claims manager for an update.
An excess, sometimes called a deductible, is the portion of a claim that you agree to pay upfront when lodging a claim. It represents your share of the risk, with the remainder covered by your insurer.
All excesses are clearly specified in your insurance policy schedule or policy wording and conditions regarding the payment of your excess will vary depending on the policy type, i.e. business, motor, landlord, etc.
For example, if a storm causes $4,000 worth of damage to your home and your policy has a $600 excess, you would pay the first $600, and your insurer would cover the remaining $3,400.
It’s important to note that not all policies have the same type or level of excess. Different situations may trigger different types of excesses, and some policies may even have multiple excesses that apply simultaneously.
If you’re unsure about how your policy’s excess works or would like to discuss your options, we’re here to help.
The insurer will investigate the incident further, endeavouring to obtain a full incident description from all parties involved and any relevant witnesses that may be available.
Once all relevant information has been received and considered a decision on who is ‘at fault’ will be made by the insurers.
If you're not satisfied with the insurer's decision, you have the option to address it through a formal dispute resolution process. If you’re feeling frustrated or unhappy with the progress or outcome of your claim, please reach out to us straight away. Since insurers often communicate directly with you, we might not be aware of any concerns unless you inform us. Once we know, we’ll step in and escalate the matter on your behalf to ensure it’s handled appropriately. Your satisfaction is our priority, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
